"If we do it for Sally, we should do it for Ally too." Well, then, what about Cally? Next thing, you are rewarding many for the performance of a few. Leadership is about making tough decisions in the best interest of employees and your organization and being able to communicate your actions effectively. Blanket decisions can demotivate your top performers and perpetuate lackluster behaviors in others. Being nice (nice is different than being kind- always be kind!) or liked should not enter into the equation.
