There's a ton of information coming at us all the time. How we process that information and discard what we don't need is as important as what we retain. It takes practice to let go of unnecessary data, and much like athletics, some of us are better at it than others. Fortunately, you can train your brain to get better. If you get stuck in a cycle of unnecessary thoughts - interrupt it. Change your activity: pick up the phone, take the dog for a walk, or swap your work task. The key is recognizing the pattern; the more you become aware and interrupt it, the easier it'll be to shorten the cycle.
