Certain situations can trigger reactions. Sometimes it is people, memories, or even smells or songs. They can be negative or positive responses, but they stop our creative process and interrupt our intended task while we mentally linger in the past. If this sounds familiar, and you want to limit the time and energy spent there, you need two things. First, stop and recognize when you get stuck. This requires some self-awareness and attention but gets easier with practice. Second, create a catchphrase. Something short and easy that you say to yourself as soon as you realize you are stuck. It helps you snap back to the present. You can't change the past, but your future is all opportunity. Spend your energy looking forward.
